The Settled Nest will provide a trained postpartum doula to assist in your home with meal planning and preparation, basic housework ( laundry, dishes, vacuuming), a listening ear to help process birth stories and talk through strategies to cope with a new baby in the family.
As a trained breastfeeding peer supporter the doula can assist and encourage the establishment of breastfeeding. They can offer handy tips for making breastfeeding comfortable around the home and while out and about. In cases where breastfeeding is not possible they will be able to talk through the best feeding and bonding strategies for you and your baby.
Information and support given is evidence based, non-medical and non-judgemental. It is recommended you see your health care professional for any concerns with your health or your baby's. If you or your baby require followup appointments the doula can accompany you to help care for the baby and assist in digesting information.
To ensure support of the mother continues after the doula service has ended, discussions will be had about how to connect with like minded parents in your area, or other areas.
This is a holistic care approach. While the focus is on the new mother, care and support is also given to the new baby, siblings and the mother's partner.
Each family is different, and for longer term support (upwards of 2 sessions) I offer a free 1/2 hour consultation in your home to make a plan about how you would like your service to be structured. This can be particularly useful to do before the birth of your baby! Plans do often change, and my service is flexible and catered to you and your changing lifestyle needs. The consultation helps with getting to know each other, getting to know the layout of your house and how it functions, and any special requirements your family might have.
4 hour + session $25 per hour
2-3 hour session $30 per hour
Optional extras for booked sessions: Relaxation Massage to calm and relax the mother. Table and towels brought to your home. Please add $20 to your session cost.
